Recovery of the Target Image in the Presence of Translational Motion in Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar Signal Processing

Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) is a powerful radar processing technique which is capable of two and three dimensional high resolution image generation of the target. ISAR image is often regarded as an adequate and sufficient measure to discriminate between various targets like missiles, military aircraft and civilian aircrafts. However, if the target has complicated motion such as pitching, yawing, rolling, and maneuvering, Fourier based ISAR image is not enough to classify among these targets. If simple Fourier Transform (FT) is employed to obtain ISAR image for a moving target, then the image is usually blurred. These images blurring problem can be solved with the translational and rotational motion compensation technique. In this article, we compensate the translational motion using the Cross Correlation method and Minimum Entropy Method (MEM) and study their effectiveness and limitation.
